Angelica Vale, Alicia Machado and the popular Jennifer Lopez are actresses being considered to play the “Diva of the Band,” the late Jenni Rivera, in a projected movie about her life.
Rosie Rivera, sister of the songstress who died in an airplane crash in Mexico last December, told the Univision network that plans to shoot the film about the eldest of the Rivera clan are going forward as part of the family’s wish to make all the artist’s dreams come true.
Even though the family of the singer born in Long Beach, California, has not confirmed who will play the part of Rivera, the press these days has bandied a number of names, including Mexican actress Angelica Vale, known on Hispanic television for her roles in such hit programs as “La Fea Mas Bella” (The Prettiest Ugly Girl).
Also mentioned repeatedly is Venezuelan actress Alicia Machado. Both she and Vale have publicly expressed their admiration for Jenni Rivera, but have also said that neither has been formally offered a role in the film.
Also speculated are the chances that the popular Jennifer Lopez’s company, Nuyorican Productions, will be in charge of making the film, though no news has been forthcoming about whether Marc Anthony’s ex-wife intends to play the “Diva of the Band.”
Lopez previously starred in the 1997 movie about another Latina musical legend, the late songstress Selena Quintanilla, who was murdered by the former president of her fan club.
For his part, film director Francisco Joel Mendoza also told the Hispanic network that he already has the permits to begin production of the movie “La Diva de la Banda” about the life of Jenni Rivera.
The filmmaker said that shooting could begin in April, just as he told the artist before her death.
