Clearly the grass courts at Wimbledon, England are not Rafa Nadal’s forte – he is out in early play for the second year in a row.
The Spaniard entered the grass courts at Wimbledon after his historic French Open win where he won his 8th French Open title. At Wimbledon he was beat by the No. 135th ranked player in the world, Steve Darcis of Belgium, in straight sets.
Last year Nadal, 27, exited Wimbledon play in the second round being defeated by Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic. Shortly after, he removed himself from competitive play due to nagging knee issues. He also bowed out of representing Spain in the 2012 London Olympics.
This is Nadal’s third loss of the year and the first in a major, reaching the finals of all nine tournaments he played in 2013.
