Martin Sheen and son Emilio Estévez star in powerful drama about the difference between the life we live and the life we choose entitled “The Way”.
Written and directed by Emilio Estévez, “The Way” is a film about an out of shape physician Tom (Martin Sheen), whose son Daniel (Estévez) dies in the middle of a storm in the French Pyrenees while walking The Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James.
Driven by grief and a desire to get to know his son better, Tom decides to complete his son Daniel’s pilgrimage. Leaving his “Comfy California life” behind for the 800km historical pilgrimage from the French Pyrenees, to Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain makes for a powerful story.
While walking The Camino, Tom meets other broken pilgrims from around the world looking for greater meaning in their lives: a Dutchman trying to lose weight (Yorick van Wageningen) a Canadian trying to kick a smoking habit (Deborah Kara Unger) and an Irish writer (James Nesbitt) suffering from the writer’s block. The film is out in theaters now.
