Vives, Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas Lead Latin Grammy Nods

Colombia’s Carlos Vives and Argentine rock duo Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas lead the nominations for the 14th annual Latin Grammys with five apiece, the Latin Recording Academy said Wednesday.

Edgar Barrera, Andres Castro, Julio Reyes Copello, Caetano Veloso and Alejandro Sanz each picked up four nominations.

Vives is nominated for album of the year, recording of the year, best tropical fusion album and best tropical song.

Illya and the Valderramas will contend in the categories of best urban performance, best urban song, best alternative album, best alternative song and best short music video.

Vying for record of the year are: Marc Anthony (“Vivir mi vida”), Andres Cepeda (“Lo mejor que hay en mi vida”), Natalie Cole with Juan Luis Guerra (“Bachata Rosa”), Santiago Cruz (“Desde lejos”) Draco Rosa featuring Ricky Martin (“Mas y mas”), Caetano Veloso (“Um abraçaço”), Carlos Vives (“Volvi a nacer”), Pablo Alboran (“Tanto”), Alejandro Sanz (“Mi marciana”) and Buika (“La nave del olvido”).

The winners will be announced Nov. 21 at a gala in Las Vegas.
