As Mexico was celebrating its bicentennial anniversary of independence there was sporadic violence throughout the country leaving suspected drug cartel members dead. On Wednesday, the U.S. State Department is reporting a gun battle occurred between the Mexican army and suspected drug cartel members leaving 22 dead.
As soldiers were conducting routine exercises in the city of Ciudad Mier, that shares an 18-mile border with Texas, they were fired upon. The shootout occurred at a local ranch where soldiers seized weapons and grenades after securing the location. Elsewhere, in the border city of Ciudad Juarez two newspaper photographers were shot at as they were driving, killing one. Both photographers worked for the newspaper Diario de Juarez.
