Angel Reyna scored two goals and Jehu Chiapas added another one to lead Veracruz to a 3-2 victory over Cruz Azul on the weekend and take the lead spot in the Mexican Apertura soccer tourney.
Cruz Azul got on the board first on a goal by Pablo Barrera in the 30th minute, but Reyna answered back in the 59th minute on a penalty kick.
Then, it was Chiapas who found the net for Veracruz in the 66th minute and four minutes later Reyna once again scored with a right-footed shot from the center of the box.
It looked like that would be the match, but in the 90th minute Veracruz’s Adrian Cortes knocked in an own-goal to put the final score at 3-2.
Reyna now leads the tourney in goals scored, with seven notched in four matches.
Cruz Azul is tied for 10th place in the standings with 4 points.
