In the Venezuelan city of Maracay a fire has set off a series of explosions at a military arms depot on Sunday. A woman nearby the facility was killed in the explosion, and three were injured in car accidents during the immediate chaos caused by the explosion.
Authorities have evacuated approximately 10,000 people from a four-mile radius surrounding the depot.
“This is a preventive measure because the ammunitions that were detonating are ammunitions that have a powerful impact,” Aragua state Gov. Rafael Isea told state television.
Firemen are on the scene putting out the fires and monitoring the small explosions as they begin to diminish.
Information Minister Andres Izarra went on state television calling for calm and saying that authorities were tending to the situation.
