The heavily favored Brazilian women’s volleyball team went home defeated, which was not expected, when the USA Volleyball Women’s National Team defeated them in the World Grand Prix today.

The second ranked Americans dominated the Brazilians with scores of 26-24, 26-20 and 25-31 and with the talents of MVP Destinee Hooker.  The gold-medal match was held earlier today in Macau, China.

Brazil’s volleyball team is considered the best in the world and entered the tournament as the favorites.  If they would of won this series this would have been their 9th World Grand Prix title.  This event is considered the premier international tournament for the sport of womens volleyball.

The American team earlier had defeated the Japanese and Italians to face the Brazilians.
