Dear President Haridopolos,
Thank you for your service to the state of Florida as President of the Florida State Senate. On behalf of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), which represents more than 200 local chambers and serves as the national advocate for nearly three million Hispanic-owned businesses throughout the nation, I am writing to register our opposition to SB 2040 for fear of the economic impact such legislation will have on the state of Florida. While we recognize the desire for states to fill the leadership vacuum left by federal inaction on immigration, we strongly believe it is unwise for the legislature to pass any additional immigration legislation, including any measures that place the burden of determining immigration status on Florida businesses.
