Victor Velasquez, an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala, soon will face deportation after his release from jail following his accident with a school bus carrying eight high school students in February in Ohio.

Velasquez, driving a Pontiac Transport minivan, rear ended the bus on the morning of February 10th.  The bumper of the bus was damaged, however no student was injured in the accident.  Velasquez fled the scene and was apprehended by police later.  Police also found an open 12 pack of beer, a Guatamalen identification card, and a fake driver’s license identifying him as David Rex Diaz.  Velasquez refused to take a breathalyzer test once he was apprehended.

Judge Charles Brown ordered Velasquez, 22, to serve 100 hours of community service, revoked his driver’s license for five years in addition to his nine month jail sentence.  Yet, upon his release from prison, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officials will likely send him back to Guatemala.
