A $4.3 million upgrade is being given to the U.S.-Mexico border fence which will now extend hundreds of feet into the Pacific ocean.
Along Imperial Beach, the steel, 18-foot fence will stretch another 300 feet off the beach, into the ocean.
Though the logistics for such a wall will no doubt be complicated, and previous attempts have failed, a contractor has already been called in to do what is being called the “Surf Fence Project”.
A local resident told the Los Angeles Times that just like past attempts, ‘the strength of the ocean will eventually knock it down.’
To even begin the attempt, a heavy-duty pier has to be built to support the crane that will ultimately pound the fence’s pillars into the ground.
