The US National Hurricane Center in Miami has predicted that tropical Storm Alex will grow into a hurricane sometime Tuesday. With sustained winds near 70 mph it is headed towards the us-Mexico border at the mouth of the Rio Grande.
A hurricane warning has been posted for as far south as La Cruz, Mexico. “It is a fact we are going to get very heavy rains,” said Gov. Fidel Herrera of the Gulf coast state of Veracruz. Forecasters predict rain from the storm will keep falling on southern Mexico and Guatemala into Tuesday. Alex caused mudslides ad flooding resulting in at least five deaths in Central America over the weekend. The storm made landfall in Belize on Saturday night.
