Trumpeter Tony “Ham” Guerrero who founded the band Tortilla Flats, died in Texas at the age of 66 this weekend.
Guerrero suffered a heart attack Jan. 10 and contracted pneumonia after being in a coma for a week. Funeral arrangements are still pending at this time.
Guerrero began playing the trumpet as a child and formed Tortilla Flats in 1968. The group produced a sound that was a unique blend of jazz, Latin music and rock.
Tortilla Flats recorded 20 albums, two of which were nominated for Grammys. The band last performed at a 2006 benefit 23 years after breaking up.
