Photo: Ultimate Fan Christian Lopez with Derek Jeter
We know, we know you probably would of sold it or the very least ask for life-time season tickets to the Yankees if you would of caught Derek Jeter’s 3,000th base hit ball. Yes the very hit that makes him the only Yankee player to reach that milestone.
The very hit that puts Jeter in the rare pantheon of only 28 MLB players to have or surpass 3,000 career base hits. But the ultimate fan Christian Lopez, 23-years old, said Derek deserved it more than him and handed the ball over. A ball that some estimate could of earned Lopez a ‘couple of hundred thousand dollars.’
The good deed did get him a photo op meeting with Jeter, a visit to the Steinbrenner family luxury box, four front-row season tickets for the rest of the season, bats, balls and jerseys signed by Jeter. WOW.
The former college linebacker was accompanied by dad Raul Lopez who almost had the ball in hand when it slipped from his grasp and into his sons.
Not only was it a good day for Lopez who got to meet Jeter but for Jeter who went on to score three more home runs putting his base hitting record now at 3,003.
