Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful,” which will be produced by Sam Mendes, now has a director attached - Juan Antonio Bayona.
The Spanish director has worked on both commercials and films, helming the 2007 horror flick The Orphanage and 2012’s The Impossible, which starred Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor.
“Penny Dreadful” is being called “a psychosexual horror series,” and will feature some of literature’s most iconic figures, including Dorian Grey and Dr. Frankenstein and will be set in Victorian London.
The eight-episode series is set to begin London filming this fall.
“Penny Dreadful” will be written and executive produced by its creator John Logan (Gladiator). Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road) is also said to be attached.
