Who knew taking a sip of water could make you the subject of internet virality?
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio was chosen to give the Republican response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address, but while he was speaking, he seemed to suffer a bout of dry mouth.
What the potential 2016 presidential candidate did next would make him the subject of a viral meme.
In the middle of his speech, the parched politician leaned way over to his left to grab a bottle of Polish Springs water. A small sip of water from a nearby glass may not have caused such a ruckus, but a long stretch off camera was so odd to see in such a serious moment that, just like other seemingly minor events (see Hilary Clinton texting), it turned him into an internet meme. His attempt to not break eye-contact with the camera may have added to the oddity.
Jokes about being the new Polish Springs spokesperson have also taken off.
Though the Cuban-American politician has been in the public eye for quite sometime – he is a Latino Republican after all – his meme self will likely be his introduction to those unfamiliar with politics.
So here it is, the drink seen country-wide that may have made Rubio a viral sensation.
