In her chart-topping single “Jenny From the Block”, Jennifer Lopez once sang, “No matter where I go, I know where I came from (South-Side Bronx!)...Nothin’ phony, don’t hate on me. What you get is what you see”, but recent reports involving her Fiat500 car commercials, have many calling her just that - a phony.

In J.Lo’s commercials for the re-introduction of the Fiat to American car buyers, viewers are led to believe that she is driving a Fiat into the neighborhood she grew up in, the Bronx. Good ol’ Jenny from the block still enjoys a drive through her old stomping grounds, right? Not so much.

The Smoking Gun has reported that Lopez never actually set foot in the Bronx during the shoot, and that a body double and some camera tricks were able to hide the fact that she is not the one walking about the actual New York neighborhood’s streets.

Two sources reportedly told them that while the double shot the actual Bronx scenes, Lopez shot in a Los Angeles studio, and Big Box, a digital production studio was “hired to merge live action footage with computer-generated imagery to make it appear as if Lopez was in the Bronx.”

Adding insult to injury, in the ads for the Fiat 500 Cabrio, Lopez’s voice is heard saying, “This is my world. This place inspires me…They may be just streets to you, but to me they’re a playground.”

Sure, Jenny, just not the kind of place you actually play in.
