The Starz cable network is said to be developing a drama series “Gringo” that tells the story of an immigration agent who infiltrates one of Mexico’s vicious narco cartels. The one-hour drama, according to Deadline, is loosely based on the 2007 book “The Shadow Catcher” by Hipolito Acosta.
Acosta was a U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agent who went undercover during his 30 years in immigration enforcement and public service. The Mexican-American author is an expert on immigration law and was the head of immigration services at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.
Acosta will serve as a consultant on the series.
Starz Managing Director said “’Gringo’ provides a thrilling and uniquely personal look into international organized crime, never seen by the American public, from the viewpoint of a federal undercover agent on the front lines.”
The network has lined up former ‘Spartacus” writers to script the series.
