According to reports Mexican authorities are alleging the six Spanish tourists that were raped knew their attackers having purchased drugs from them in the days leading up to the attack.

The sexual assaults occurred around 3:00 a.m. Monday in Playa Bonfil, located in the eastern section of Acapulco, one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations.

The victims and several male companions were outside their bungalow when five masked gunmen armed approached them and entered their bungalow.  It is now believed the gunmen were let into the beach bungalow because the victims knew them from drug transactions from two or three days before.

After gagging the men, the attackers assaulted the six Spanish women, though they spared a Mexican woman who was with them.

Authorities from the Mexican state of Guerrero are also saying they are close to making an arrest and are assuring both Mexican and foreign tourists that this crime “will not go unpunished.”
