The Spanish doubles team of Marc Lopez and Marcel Granollers has been bounced out of the Australian Open, falling in the semifinals to unseeded Dutchmen Robin Haase and Igor Sijsling 7-5, 6-4 on Thursday.
Lopez and Granollers, the No. 3 seeds, have enjoyed a strong recent run of form, also reaching the U.S. Open semifinal in September and winning the ATP World Tour Finals in London two months ago.
They also represented their country in last year’s Davis Cup final but lost in four sets to Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic, which went on to win the title.
Haase and Sijsling will take on top seeds Mike and Bob Bryan - 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 winners Thursday over Italy’s Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini - in Saturday night’s final.
