Sofia Vergara, the Colombian star of ABC sitcom “Modern Family” is joining the cast of Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete Kills,” Variety reported Friday.
Rodriguez had already recruited Jessica Alba, Amber Heard, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson and Demian Bichir for the sequel to the 2010 film “Machete,” while Danny Trejo will repeat as the protagonist.
Shooting is set to begin this month.
The plot involves Machete, a former Mexican cop, working with the U.S. government against a drug lord and an arms dealer - played by Gibson - from launching a missile.
Vergara will likely play Madame Desdemona, boss of a stable of working girls who have information Machete needs, Variety said.
The first “Machete” film was made for $10.5 million and earned some $44 million at the box office worldwide
