A Homeland Security investigation has revealed that even coyotes, the name for those who bring immigrants across the border illegally, are utilizing cell phone technology to conduct their “business.”
Today, almost all smartphones are equipped with GPS technology that make it so the smuggler does not actually have to travel with the migrants, as they can direct them over the phone while the migrants look at the GPS-guided map on the phones as they travel across the U.S.-Mexico border.
Special Agent Rick Sandoval with the Dept. of Homeland Security told KSWT News, ‘By giving the smuggler a cell phone he can direct and bring in the aliens from Mexico into the U.S. an when apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol or ourselves then we’ve got the illegal aliens but don’t have a smuggler because the smugglers on the phone and he’s in Mexico.’
