They celebrated everywhere were the Virgin of Guadalupe is revered but no where else like Mexico City where her basilica and relics are housed. Over six million pilgrims came many on their knees to pray and sign the traditional Mexican birthday ‘mañanitas’ (birthday). It is considered and for good reason the largest Catholic event of its kind throughout the Americas. Many pilgrims started arriving the day before pitching tents to camp overnight.
