Arizona’s controversial Sheriff Joe Arpaio has just announced he has cancelled plans to host a jailed chain gang squad right in front of Chase Field for tonight’s MLB All-Star Game.  Maybe the Sheriff, though doubtful, sensed even he would be pushing the envelope by having a chain gang dressed in pink tops and black striped pants.  It was expected that the chain gang might offend some and bother many as it worked by picking up trash before and after the game.

In addition, several immigrant advocacy organization had been calling for the boycott of tonights game and had been encouraging the Latino ball players to speak up against the state’s strict anti-immigrant law SB1070.  The sight of the chain gang that was expected to include several immigrant detainees might spark emotions even further.

The sheriff had promised to provide one chain gang made up of all undocumented immigrants jailed for drunk driving offenses.

Sheriff Arpaio noted that he wanted children to enjoy the event and fans to focus on baseball.  Gracias we say.
