The father of Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira said Friday that the rumored pregnancy of his daughter has never been confirmed, despite the assurances of media outlets in various countries.
“I’ve seen in the press that some media claim to have confirmed the reported pregnancy of my daughter, but that’s absolutely false,” William Mebarak said in a communique from the northern city of Barranquilla, where Shakira was born and raised.
“I wish to repeat exactly what I said in an interview I gave recently, that I hope the good news may come soon because I know it will thrill everybody. I’ve never said anything different from that, nor have I ever confirmed” her pregnancy, Mebarak said.
The latest edition of the Colombian edition of Gente magazine highlighted on its cover that Shakira is six-months pregnant but is waiting “a prudent amount of time” to tell the world she is expecting.
The publication cites “a highly reliable source” and adds to the rumors spread over the past few weeks by various media outlets, against which her representatives have no plans “to make an official announcement in that regard,” Shakira spokesperson Rodrigo Beltran told Efe.
According to Gente, “it was all planned” because motherhood is a priority for the 35-year-old artist, who doesn’t want to wait much longer to have a baby.
