Officials in Venezuela confirm that seven people have died and more are believed to be trapped in the collapsed mine. The mine is located in El Callao, in the state of Bolivar. Emergency workers are trying desperately to free the men from the illegal gold mine.
President Hugo Chavez has been trying to close down many of these illegal mining operations as he says they have a devastating effect on the economy. In April he sent the Army to down camps in this very area. Safety standards are these illegal mines are non-existent.
