Firefighters found Tuesday the lifeless body of a 4-year-old girl who fell into an open sewer the day before when she was walking with her father through a neighborhood on the Colombian capital’s south side, the municipal government said.
The accident occurred in a vacant area of the Chico Sur neighborhood, and the child’s body was found a few kilometers (miles) away near El Apogeo Cemetery after an 18-hour search.
“We regret to report that the body of the child was found in the Tunjuelito River,” the Bogota city clerk’s office said in a message on Twitter.
Close to 30 fire rescue personnel had taken part since Monday afternoon in the search for the girl, authorities said.
In October, a 2-year-old girl also died when she accidentally fell into an open sewer while walking with her mother along a street in downtown Bogota.
