Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is reported to have received dozens of tickets to events over a several year period with an excess value of $50,000 and not reporting them on the appropriate forms.
A Los Angeles publication and Politico put the value of the 80 or so tickets at $100,000. The tickets run the gambit from sporting events to the Academy Awards to the American Idol finale.
The amount is notable because it was not reported on the appropriate government disclosure form; there are no records from the Mayor’s office available and it ranks Villaraigosa as a top gift getter in California politics. Many mayor’s prefer to buy their own tickets to events to avoid the perception of impropriety.
The city of Los Angeles does not allow an elected official to receive more than $420 annually in gifts from a single source. It is not known if Mayor Villaraigosa will face any ethics review.
