Salma Hayek’s Brother Involved in Deadly Crash that Takes Life of Grammy-Winning Art Director

Sami Hayek, the younger brother of Mexican actress Salma Hayek was involved in a deadly car crash that resulted in the death of his passenger on Sunday afternoon.

The 40-year-old brother of Salma was driving his $165,000 sports car in Los Angeles when he allegedly lost control of his vehicle taking him into oncoming traffic on Sunset Boulevard.  The 2006 Ford GT sports car crashed into a pick-up truck driven by Alvin Javier Gomez.

Hayek’s passenger, who was killed, was initially described as a male resident of Mexico.  The Los Angeles coroner has now identified the passenger as Ian Cuttler Sala.  Cuttler, 43-years-old, is a Grammy winning art director who hails from Mexico and is now a resident of New York.  Cuttler won a Grammy for best art direction for the music box set “Johnny Cash: the Legend.”  Reportedly his parents flew in from Mexico after hearing of the deadly accident.

Hayek was taken to the hospital from the scene of the accident with broken ribs and facial lacerations.  According to police reports the passenger side of the two-seater sports car took the brunt of the impact. 

Hayek is a furniture designer in Los Angeles and is married to jewelry designer Daniela Villegas.  The Hayek siblings grew up in Coatzacoalcos, Vera Cruz

Los Angeles Police continue to investigate the accident and are attempting to determine what caused Hayek to lose control of his vehicle.  No charges have been filed against Hayek thus far.
