Reports are coming out of Costa Rica that the country is about to have its very own Disney theme park in the near future. Mayor Luis Gerardo of Liberia confirmed that developers thought to be associated with Disney purchased about 7,000 acres in the Guanacaste province. Liberia is the capital of the Guanacaste province and the largest city there.
This would be Latin America’s first Disney theme park.
The Disney Park is expected to be located south of the airport and near popular coastal beach resorts and a popular African safari zoo. It will be some 100 miles north of San Jose, the capital city.
Diaz expects Disney to break ground early next year, though Disney has not issued an official statement on the project. According to Tico Times, “Disney was unable to immediately confirm whether or not the [land] development company is associated with them.”
According to Gerardo, Costa Rican authorities and Disney officials are working on obtaining all the necessary permits and licenses to move forward.
Costa Rica is one of the most “green” and eco-friendly countries in the world. Disney will have to comply with strict environmental standards in order to operate its theme park. Costa Rica is also one of the world’s most environmentally sustainable countries with much of its energy supply coming from renewable and low-carbon sources.
Disney known as the “Happiest Place on Earth” will be coming to the happiest country in the world, Costa Rica has one of the highest life satisfaction rankings globally.
Costa Rica’s population of 4.8 million is enhanced by over 2 million annual foreign visitors and is the most visited country in Central America.
