Ronaldo Scores Two Goals to Take Real Madrid to Victory in Super Cup

Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo scored both goals here Tuesday as Real Madrid cruised to a 2-0 victory over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup.

The clash between Champions League winner Real Madrid and Europa League victor Sevilla was played before some 30,000 people at Cardiff City Stadium.

A pass from Welsh international and Cardiff favorite son Gareth Bale set up Ronaldo’s first tally at the half-hour mark.

The reigning Ballon d’Or scored his second goal in the 49th minute, with an assist from Karim Benzema.

Blancos’ coach Carlo Ancelotti showcased two of the club’s summer acquisitions, German international Toni Kroos and Colombia’s James Rodriguez, the revelation of this year’s World Cup tournament.

Real Madrid, who took the field with captain Iker Casillas carrying the Champions League trophy, left Cardiff with their second Super Cup.

The 10-time Champions League winners are aiming for a total of six trophies in the 2014-2015 campaign.
