Hispanic filmmaker Robert Rodriguez again worked with graphic novelist Frank Miller to create the long-awaited sequel to “Sin City” (2005) christened “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.”

The movie, which premiered nationwide in the United States on Friday, features a cast that includes Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Josh Brolin, Rosario Dawson, Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who portray characters taken from the dark comic-book world of Miller’s imagination and whose stories run into and around one another.

The sequel inherits the spirit of the original, its aesthetics and pace seasoned with a thirst for vengeance against a corrupt power, which is what moves the plot along.

The first “Sin City,” starring Rourke, Willis, Alba, Benicio Del Toro and Clive Owen, grossed more than $160 million.
