Directors Robert Rodriguez and Guillermo del Toro were in attendance at Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego talking trash, promoting new projects and just being goofy.
Rodrguez surprised a panel audience when he announced four new projects, even though he was there to talk about his Quick Draw Production company. He announced he is doing another Sin City movie aptly title Sin City 2 and not one but two sequels to Machete.
The tentative titles to Machete will be Machete Kills and Machete Kills Again…in Space (not sure about that one). He is also very excited about doing a live-action remake of John Frazetta’s animated Fire and Ice.
On another panel Guillermo del Toro used a lot of f-bombs to talk about his current project “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”. When asked why he loves monster so much and uses them all the time in his movies he replied: “Fuck you. Monsters are a living, breathing fuck you.” Clearly his most recent project Kung Fu Panda 2, which he executive produced, doesn’t count.
Comic-Con which officially launched on Thursday is an annual fans convention that has been going strong for over forty years. It originally was a place for comic book fans to meet and get updates. Since then it has expanded to include movie fans and pop culture enthusiasts. Directors like Rodriguez and del Toro enjoy it because they get to meet their fans directly.
