M.A.C. cosmetics has named Puerto Rican pop star Ricky Martin to be one of the faces of its 2012 Viva Glam campaign alongside the eccentric Nicki Minaj.
For more than 15 years, the makeup line has been raising awareness and funds to fight HIV and AIDS by way of the Viva Glam lipstick series. For every Viva Glam lipstick and lipglass purchased, “every cent of the selling price…is donated to the M.A.C. AIDS Fund.”
Martin and Minaj join a long list of celebrities to lend their faces and their voices to the cause. Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper were two to of the most recent celebrity faces to pose for the cause, but others have included Christina Aguilera, Dita Von Teese, Shirley Manson of the band Garbage, Elton John, Mary J Blige, RuPaul, and Eve.
For their ad for the campaign, which is going to be released in February, Ricky and Nicki’s photo was shot by famed photographer David LaChapelle, who is known for his use of color and often times, controversy. This time however, he lends his talents to a noble cause.
To date, the M.A.C. AIDS Fund has raised more than $224 million to those afflicted by or at high risk for AIDS or HIV.
