On Wednesday, WABC-TV weather reporter Heidi Jones admitted she lied on two occasions to police when she claims a Hispanic man attempted to rape her two separate times.
The New York reporter and occasional “Good Morning America” contributor confessed after telling police a Hispanic man tried to rape her while running in Central Park on September 24, 2010 and then again two months later in front of her home.
Police conducted an extensive search for the Hispanic suspect but found her story inconsistent. Jones finally confessed she made up the story ‘for attention’ and because she had so ‘much stress at work, with my personal life and with my family.’
If convicted of two misdemeanors she can face up to a year in prison. It is not known why Jones chose to characterize her fictional attacker as Hispanic.
