Rep. Luis Gutierrez the Democrat from Illinois announced today he has decided not to run for Mayor of Chicago. Soon after Mayor Richard Daley announced he would not seek another term, Gutierrez started looking into the viability of launching a campaign.
Gutierrez, a leading voice for immigration reform that includes amnesty, in making his announcement recommitted his energies and focus on passing immigration reform. “I have an obligation not to give up on the fight I’ve already begun.” “I have unfinished business to complete.” Many immigration advocates view his role in immigration reform critical and are relieved upon hearing his decision.
There is a large slate of candidates running for Mayor including other notable Hispanics like Miguel del Valle and Gery Chico.
