Ecuadorian police on Wednesday seized two tons of cocaine and arrested five people in the southwestern province of El Oro, Ecuador’s Interior Ministry said.
In the operation, which was carried out in the municipality of Pasaje, authorities also confiscated $160,000 in cash, according to information the ministry posted on Twitter.
“Hundreds of packets of cocaine, 5 individuals arrested in Pasaje, very good work (by) ULCO, coordinated with the Attorney General’s Office,” Minister Jose Serrano wrote.
Operation “Falcon” was coordinated among the Antinarcotics Directorate of the police, the unit that fights organized crime, or ULCO, and the AG’s office.
With this seizure, so far this year Ecuadorian authorities have confiscated 53 tons of illegal substances, a total of more than 300 million doses that could have been distributed in different countries, according to the Interior Ministry.
“The important thing is not the drug total in tons but rather the doses that are prevented from going to young people all over the world,” the ministry said.
