A woman with more than $500,000 in her bank account is among four suspected members of the feared Mara Salvatrucha gang arrested Friday, Guatemala’s PNC national police force said.

Maria Jose Navas Foronda, alias “La Hard,” was apprehended on a highway in the western part of the country.

The 30-year-old Navas is a reputed member of the gang’s Santos Locos Salvatrucha faction and has 4 million quetzales ($514,800) in a single bank account, the PNC said in a statement.

Navas controlled an account containing 5 million quetzales ($643,500) in 2009, the PNC said.

Her arrest came in the context of a sweep carried out in several different parts of Guatemala by a PNC task force.

Julia Betzaida Monterroso Cifuentes, 24, was apprehended in the central province of Guatemala, while police picked up Libni Elizabeth Zarazua Chavez, 28; and Jimmy Jose Notz Mulul, 27, in the western region of Chimaltenango.

All four suspects face charges for extortion, car theft and murder-for-hire, the PNC said.
