Southwestern pizza chain, Pizza Patrón, which made national headlines when it announced it would be accepting Mexican pesos in lieu of U.S. dollars, is once again garnering attention, this time for their new promotion.
On June 5, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at participating locations, for a large pepperoni pizza, customers need just order in Spanish.
In a press release, Pizza Patrón stated that the “Pizza Por Favor” promotional campaign is a way of honoring the “positive force of change immigrants have in communities throughout America.”
“Free product promotions have been around for a long time,” said Andrew Gamm, brand director for Pizza Patrón, “but I’ve never heard of any company rewarding guests for speaking Spanish. For us, “Pizza Por Favor” makes great business sense—it is an opportunity for us to strengthen the relationship we have with our core customer.”
Free pizzas are limited to one per customer between 5pm and 8pm, at participating locations, while supplies last.
As praise for this deal grows, so too do the negative reactions. On Pizza Patrón’s official Facebook page some have already declared the restaurant has “lost my business,” because this promotion apparently promotes illegal immigration.
