Unlike five years ago, the issue of illegal immigration has dropped in importance as a national political issue according to a new Pew Research Center survey.
Back in 2007 a majority of American (55%) viewed illegal immigration as an important issue now only 39% of polled Americans thinks its important.
The issue that is consuming the attention of Americans and growing in importance is the economy. 86% of American see this as the most important political issue versus 68% back in 2007.
Illegal immigration is viewed as more important than strengthening the military, global trade and transportation issues. However, immigration scores far below jobs, terrorism, budget deficit and education.
