Prior to their audition for season 8 of “America’s Got Talent,” Fernando Varela, Hana Ryu, and Josh Page had never met in person, despite being a singing group.
Though their story surprised the judges, it was their talent that really made them stand out.
During Vegas week, with a line-up change (Ryu was replaced by Sean Panikkar), the guys wowed again with their performance of Andrea Bocelli’s “The Prayer.”
Forte auditioned with Fernando of Puerto Rico, Ryu of South Korea, and Page of the U.S. (New York). Their audition was the first time they had performed together in front of an audience.
This week, with Panikkar, Forte received a standing ovation after impressing most of the panel and the audience singing “Somewhere (There’s a Place for Us)” from West Side Story.
The guys advanced to the semifinals after receiving enough votes to move.
“What’s amazing about you is even the story. The fact that you don’t know each other, the fact that you aren’t seasoned, the fact you met online,” said judge Howie Mandel, noting, “You guys are going to become a household name… I think there is a place for you, and it’s in the Top 10.”
