The Obama administration formally asked Congress Tuesday for $600 million in funds to enhance border security. This hefty amount would cover additional 1,000 Border Patrol agents, two aerial drones, 160 Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, and Border Patrol canine teams.
“These amendments would support efforts to secure the Southwest border and enhance federal border protection, law enforcement and counternarcotics activities,” Obama wrote. Some funds would go to help the Mexican government with ballistic and DNA analysis.
The proposal also includes1,200 National Guard troops and part of the funding would also go to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to repair fences and improve infrastructure.
