President Barack Obama continues his outreach to the Hispanic community or better said the Hispanic vote by keynoting today’s National Hispanic Prayer breakfast.
Esperanza, one of the nation’s largest faith-based Hispanic organizations, welcomed the President as well as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev).
The President is aware that a large majority of Hispanics are religious with 68 percent being Roman Catholic and receptive to an immigration reform effort.
During his speech the President reaffirmed his commitment to passing comprehensive immigration reform identifying the passage as ‘a moral imperative.’ He highlighted some of the aspects of his ‘blueprint’ for passage from his El Paso, Texas speech last week. When actually comprehensive reform would occur is unclear since the President did not provide a timeline.
In closing he urged Hispanic religious leaders to “ keep preaching, keep persuading” the community and elected leaders to mandate that reform to the current immigration laws happen
