A professor at New York University says actor James Franco failed to show up to a number of his classes, so he gave the “Freaks & Geeks” star a ‘D’. The professor claims that because of this he was fired, and is now suing the school

José Angel Santana, the professor of Franco’s “Directing the Actor II” class at NYU told the New York Post that the television and movie star missed about 12 of the 14 classes, so he gave him a low grade as a result.

He is now claiming that he was fired for not giving the 33-year-old actor a good grade simply because he was a star, and is suing to be reinstated.

‘In my opinion, they’ve turned the NYU graduate film degree into swag for James Franco’s purposes, a possession, something you can buy,’ Santana told the Post.

Santana, 58, says that not only did he lose his job, but the actor ridiculed him in public, as did the professor’s own department.

Last year, Franco told Showbiz411 that he “did the work” in Santana’s class, adding that he “did well in everything else,” a comment which Santana took to mean that Franco was saying he did well in everything else, and that the professor just had a problem with him and his celebrity status.

Franco was attending NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, while also pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts degree at Columbia University as well as continuing his acting and directing career.
