The quarterback controversy in New York got a little more interesting on Sunday.

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was abysmal his team’s 34-0 loss against the San Francisco 49ers.  Sanchez was 13-for-29 for 103 yards and an interception. The entire Jets offense was stifled by a 49ers defense, as New York only gained 145 yards of offense.

Jets backup Tim Tebow threw one pass for nine yards and ran twice for zero yards. After the game Jets coach Rex Ryan still said he is sticking with Sanchez, and contract status has nothing to do with his decision.

Jets fans and the mainstream national media are starting to make their case that Tebow should start. Tebow was in a similar situation last year in Denver. Kyle Orton started the year under center, and when he struggled, Tebow stepped in to turn the Broncos fortunes around.

Will the same thing happen soon in New York and Tebow will get an opportunity? Only time will tell. The Jets play next Monday against undefeated Houston, who has a stellar defense of their own.
