The U.S. State Department stated that it continues to support the candidacy of Larry Palmer to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela.  President Hugo Chavez had informed the U.S. that he would not accept Palmer because he had accused Venezuela of harboring Colombian rebels.

The U.S. in a ‘reciprocal’ action revoked the visa of Venezuela’s ambassador to the U.S. Bernardo Alvarez Herrera.  The U.S. also rejected Chavez’ suggestion for U.S. Ambassador which included actor Sean Penn and Hollywood director Oliver Stone.

It is not known if either Penn or Stone entertained Chavez’ suggestion.  So both countries at this point do not have official representation in each other’s country.
