Former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez was indicted by a grand jury on first-degree murder and weapons charges in the killing of Odin Lloyd this morning.
The 23-year-old $40 Million NFL’er plead not guilty to killing 27-year-old Lloyd back in June. Lloyd’s bullet-ridden body was found near Hernandez’ Attleboro, Massachusetts home. Hernandez came under scrutiny almost immediately after the body was found on June 17. A car was seen near the scene of the crime that was quickly tied to Hernandez.
On June 17 Lloyd’s body was found in an industrial park after having been seen with Hernandez shortly before his death. The former semi-pro football player was dating the sister of Hernandez’s girlfriend. Hernandez was arrested on June 26.
The Bristol County indictment was not a surprise to many since the state claims to have overwhelming physical evidence implicating Hernandez in the crime. Evidence that includes a magazine of .45-caliber bullets, same as those found at the crime scene, found in Hernandez’ vehicle.
Some reports are theorizing that Lloyd had evidence implicating Hernandez in a double murder that occurred in July 2012 in Boston. Two Latino men were shot down after an altercation with unidentified men in a vehicle.
Hernandez, who is Puerto Rican, is being held in the Attleboro county jail without bail and faces life in prison if convicted of the murder charges.
