As Fashion Week concludes today in New York we saw some of the best designers highlighting their Spring 2011 collections and amongst them were many Hispanic and Latino designers you should get to know if you don’t already.
On Sunday, Custo Barcelona, the Barcelona bred brand, debuted their new line inspired by California to solid reviews. On Monday we saw the grande dame of fashion Venezuelan Carolina Herrera celebrating her 25th year as a fashion designer; her show was followed by Carlos Miele’s show. His designs transcend the influences of his Brazilian roots to become the “master of fiery color and pattern” according to the fashion press. If that wasn’t enough Monday was a Latino triple-fashion-play: Narciso Rodriguez, Rosa Cha and LUCA LUCA’s Raul Melgoza.
Cuban-American Rodriguez and Mexican-American Melgoza, both alumni of the prestigious Parson’s School of Design WOWED with clean lines, beautiful fabrics and lots of short jackets. Rosa Cha was an afternoon highlight with a phenomenal swimsuit line – HS News fave was the black polka dot stunner.
This afternoon we saw six wonderful Argentinean designers all part of a group show highlighting design talent from that country. Amongst the group, Marcelo Senra was a fashion week favorite with his designs influenced by native traditions of north Argentina.
If the diversity of the modeling industry isn’t occurring (a complaint heard by many) at least it’s happening on the designing front.
