An on-duty detective in New Mexico received a little something extra in her burrito Wednesday, one that sent her to the hospital.
The detective with the Albuquerque Police Department says she stopped by Empire Burritos around 11:30 a.m. for lunch.
Not expecting out of the ordinary, the detective bit into the burrito and chomped down on something hard inside an olive.
Northeast Area Commander Steve Warfield told KRQE News 13 the detective “bit into the food and felt some pain. She felt that maybe she bit into bone or something to that effect.”
Upon looking at the burrito, it was revealed that there was glass in the food, and the detective went to the hospital worried she had swallowed glass after finding a shard in her cheek.
She has since been released and is doing fine, but an investigation has begun.
The owner of Empire Burrito, Clifton Callicotte, prepared the detective’s burrito, and he has reportedly been accused of poor behavior before.
A woman says she was pushed out of the restaurant by Callicotte, and police say that claim is being taken into consideration.
Police also say Callicotte was aware that the detective was a law enforcement official.
