The new biography of Lio Messi penned by argentine author Leonardo Faccio,“Messi, the Kid That was Always Late,” reveals that Lio has a look-alike for ad campaigns.
“He has stood in for Lio in refreshment ads, commercials for mobile phones, airlines and even China’s google-like search engine,” Faccio wrote in his book.
Messi’s double is Catalonian, and worked re-stocking tobacco machines at bars before posing for the Argentine soccer phenom.
Faccio wrote that the double was excited to meet Messi and tell him how people react to his physical likeness to him. However when the two met, Lio reportedly become uncomfortable dismissive and shied away.
Faccio wrote the book over three years while conversing with over 100 people close to Messi, from family members and old flames, to high school teachers, and soccer coaches.
It is not uncommon for sports stars and celebrities to have doubles that stand in for them, specially when their schedules demand them to be in two places at the same time.
Since the news broke out fans in social networks wonder, could it be that Messi’s poor performance with the Argentina shirt is because his double is playing for him?
